If you don't own any suits yet, I recommend starting with a neutral color that meshes well with the existing color palette in your wardrobe. I personally would start by investing in a black suit, and then each season work in an additional neutral option (think charcoal, beige, camel, forest green, etc.)

In terms of silhouette, I'm into oversized blazers with strong shoulder pads and straight / wide leg trousers. Avoid traditional fitted suits as it feels very corporate and outdated. During summer, explore light earth tones and bright pops of color in linen, cotton and silk. During winter, go for deeper hues in a blend of wool or cashmere.

Dress your suit down with a tank + slides + tote for a casual daytime look, and switch to strappy sandals + clutch for a night out. Wear the jacket with a t-shirt + jeans + loafers, or throw it over a slip dress. Wear the pants solo with a silk cami + flats, or wear them with a chunky sweater + boots. Endless combinations, same base.

Now let's talk budget. Yes, it's an expensive purchase – but it's worth the investment. The cost per wear ratio of a classic piece proves it!
