Failproof Packing Tips for Fall/Winter

Packing for a trip doesn’t have to be stressful or time consuming. All you need is a handful of versatile items that can be mixed and matched to create a variety of looks.

I’m currently in New York for a month long fall work trip and I managed to pack everything in one luggage. Mind you it’s chilly so that includes heavier items like boots, sweaters and outerwear! I like to travel light, especially when I’m moving around and need to be agile and organized.

My Top Tips for Smart Packing

COLOR PALETTE

Stick to a color palette. I personally like classic neutrals and earth tones (think black, white, charcoal, navy, forest green, brown, camel, beige). These colors are easy to style and look effortlessly chic.

VERSATILE ITEMS

Pick items that can be styled in at least 3 different looks. If you can’t repeat the item, don’t pack it as it’s just taking up space and weight in your luggage.

SHOES

Select 1-3 shoes that work across all outfits and that can transition from day to night. You can’t go wrong with a classic black boot and a pair of white sneakers.

HANDBAGS

Opt for 1-2 staple bags. A lightweight small bag and a spacious tote for the airport is usually all I need. Go for bags in the same color as your shoes.

OUTERWEAR

Don’t overpack outerwear as it takes up tons of space and weight. 1 jacket / blazer and 1 coat is enough.

ACCESSORIES

Go for a set of accessories you can wear everyday and everywhere. You can’t go wrong with gold hoops and a chain necklace.

I’m currently into monochromatic looks, so I selected 3 pants in different colors and paired them with sweaters in the same tone. I’m wearing all of these looks with the same black combat boots and mini black bag. When it gets chilly I add a black puffer jacket. To ground the look, stick to the same color across shoes, bags, outerwear and sunglasses.
